International Adoption

As you embark on the journey to adopt a child from another country, it is comforting to know you can rely on a local expert who can help you navigate the intricacies of the adoption process. Graceworks Lutheran Services offers the experience, compassion, ongoing support and networking you will need to complete your international adoption.

Since 1967, we have helped families adopt over 1,000 children from 36 other countries. We are linked to well established and reliable international agencies such as Children's Home Society & Family Services and Families thru International Adoption that facilitate international placements.

If you decide international adoption is the best option for you, our social worker will work with you and guide you every step of the way.  In addition, you will be required to attend educational group sessions and complete a homestudy assessment.

Adoption Pre-Placement Training
Graceworks provides educational group sessions for international adoption that are designed to prepare you to become an adoptive family. Our 12 hours of training meets Hague Convention standards as well as Ohio and USCIS requirements.

Homestudy Assessments
Homestudy assessments are required for all adoptions. State-licensed adoption assessors conduct all of our homestudies, which are thoroughly reviewed to meet the highest standards of quality. All international homestudies meet the requirements of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the country you plan to adopt from, and the State of Ohio.

Post-placement Services
Once your child is placed in your home, we will complete the necessary post-placement visits and reports. During this adjustment period, we will be available to make referrals to resources you or your child might need, and to provide emotional support, as needed.
