From a family member of an individual who resides in Bethany’s Memory-Supported Care community:

Approximately two years ago my aunt, MW, was admitted to another facility north of Dayton. She was a resident of one of their Alzheimer units. I was devastated when I went to visit her. She shared an extremely small room with another resident. The window in their room was too high for her to even look out. Unless I visited her a meal time, I rarely saw a staff member in her area. If I wanted to bring her to my house for a visit, it would take me about fifty minutes to arrive at her place of residence, another fifty minutes to get to my home. After our visit it was the same time sequence. Her personal hygiene was not always the best and her clothes were not always clean. Her glasses disappeared and no one in her family was notified. I was extremely upset after my visits with her. I contacted my aunt M (MW’s Power of Attorney) and told her how unhappy I was. I asked her if she would mind if I contacted the Admissions Department at Bethany Village. I told her that I was willing to do all of the leg work and share any responsibilities with her, if we could get MW transferred. She agreed.

I contacted Dana Adams in your Admissions Department and expressed our interest in getting MW admitted. I explained that she was a Medicaid patient. I expected to be put on a waiting list, have to fill out papers and be put through a lengthy process. I was pleasantly surprised when Dana told me that there was space available and that a team from Bethany would evaluate MW at her residence in a matter of days.

The entire process from the date of my first phone call to Dana took one week. MW was now a resident of Bethany!

MW has a room of her own in Arbor South. My son and I were able to bring two lounge chairs and a tray table into her room. We have been able to add personal touches. She has plenty of room for her clothes, TV, puzzles, photos, etc. Her room is ALWAYS immaculate. Her clothes are always clean. Her personal hygiene and appearance have improved immensely. I have never gone to visit her and not been greeted by a nurse, nurse’s aide, therapist or other staff member. She is treated with respect and given loving care. MW appears to be very happy. She converses more with me and is content when it’s time to go back to Bethany after one of our outings.

I cannot begin to tell you how happy we are with Bethany Village. My family and I are extremely impressed by the facility security, the beautiful grounds that we all enjoy, the social activities that are available and enjoyed by my aunt and the food service. The meals look and smell delicious.

Thank you, Bethany Village, for taking such good care of my Aunt MW.

Sincerely,
KF

From a family member whose loved one resides in the Bethany Village Linden House

My name is JA and I am the daughter of LB (a resident of Bethany’s Woodview long-term care community). I live in the Seattle, Washington area and just spent the past weekend in Dayton with Mom.

I just wanted to take a couple of minutes and thank you and your staff for the wonderful care you are giving my mother. As a registered nurse, I know only too well how difficult it is to keep nursing home patients looking fresh and clean. I applaud your efforts; you and your staff are doing an absolute fantastic job. Not only was my mother looking well kept but her room, the bathroom, closet and even her nightstand drawers were very tidy, organized and clean. To me, that speaks volumes about her care.

Mom was much more alert this visit than when I visited her last. We got her to play the piano and the smug smile on her face after playing told us that she was very satisfied with her performance. She knew me this time when she hadn’t recognized me the last time. She also knew her grandson who was visiting with me.

Again, I thank you not only for taking care of our mother, but for giving her the care with love. As a nurse, I know many times, it would be much easier just to do the basic care, but it appears your staff never forgets to add those little loving touches.

Regards,
JA

From an individual who recovered from surgery in the Bethany Rehabilitation Center

My experience with nursing homes and rehab facilities had been somewhat limited. But, since my wife and I (Eucharistic ministers for St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church) for many years now regularly visit several homes in the Dayton area I do have an adequate knowledge to assure you your facility and ALL associated with it were outstanding during my two-week confinement.

When my doctor had scheduled my knee replacement he indicated I might have to go to a rehab (facility)—it would depend upon my condition after the surgery. Here, I thought I would be a macho man and do my own rehab at home. Thank goodness my devoted wife P suggested the Bethany Rehabilitation Center—she knew how tough it would be to help my 235 pound body just getting in and out of bed, etc. Best choice I ever made. From the very moment I was wheeled into room 1127, nurses, aides, attendants of all kinds catered very caringly and professionally to my every need.

I am a very active 72-year-old and really dreaded being confined to a room for great lengths of time. But as soon as I was scheduled for both occupational and physical therapy the days were not that long. The room was so bright and pleasant it was conducive to quiet reading, meditation and some times TV. One of the things I appreciated most was the beautiful view out my picture window—the bright autumn sunshine filtered into my room every single day of my confinement.

Added to the soft sunshine was the very cheery and upbeat attitude of the entire staff. I wish I could thank each of them personally but I am concerned I might miss someone. Please pass this on to those on duty during my two-week stay.

Also, the physical environment was quite pleasant. My two times a day as I struggled using my walker to physical therapy gave me time to observe many of the various staff working with the patients. Never did I hear a discouraging comment. And, of course, you can certainly gauge people’s attitude by their facial expressions and comments as you pass them in the hall. The vast majority appeared genuinely pleased with their environment and treatment.

On behalf of my family, my doctor, Dr. Frank Fassano, and many others, accept my sincere thanks for a job well done.

Your staff certainly exemplifies the meaning of the gospel where Jesus encourages all His apostles to care for the sick and those in need of comfort—for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

Very gratefully,
BO

From a resident of the Bethany Village Linden House

It’s great. I really like it here. I have privacy when I want it; no one intrudes if you don’t want them to. It’s a very dignified life.

I want to keep myself active. I don’t want to be helpless and I don’t ever want to slow down. Bethany keeps me going. I am never lonesome and I am never bored. In fact, I have more opportunities now than I did when I was living in my apartment.

Sincerely,
ED
